Belstone travelled to Hatherleigh on 1st August for a 3rd round clash in the Corinthian Cup, a competition which has 16 eight ball overs per side.  Opening bowlers Jonathan Parsons and Harry Bushin bagged an early wicket apiece but Belstone were then put under severe pressure by an exhilarating stand of 107 for the third wicket in just six overs between Tom Rogers (40) and Andrew Bennett.  Bennett in particular struck the ball with great power, taking three sixes and a four off Chris Gomersall’s first over, which cost 26 runs altogether.  Bennett continued with three further sixes and five more fours before Gomersall bowled him for 78 with the score on 130.  Wesley Withey (20) and Scott Gillespie (10) continued the charge until both fell in successive balls to Gomersall, Withey being spectacularly caught by a diving Parsons in front of the pavilion at deep midwicket.  After a relatively sedate last couple of overs Hatherleigh ended their innings on a mammoth 186 for seven.

With Belstone on 29 for three after five overs an easy home win seemed certain but Gomersall (35) and Phil Woods (37) then began a counter-attack which added 73 for the fourth wicket in six overs with 11 fours and two sixes between them.  Only when Woods was run out in a desperate attempt to keep up with the asking rate were Hatherleigh able to regain the initiative, eventually running out comfortable winners by 51 runs.  Belstone man-of-the-match: Chris Gomersall.

Belstone returned to winning ways after two successive defeats in the South Devon League with a comprehensive nine wicket demolition of Ashburton on 7 August.  Put into bat Ashburton had no answer to the medium pace of Parsons whose nine overs from the pavilion end finished with career best figures for Belstone of six wickets for eight runs.  Finding movement both ways off the seam he induced two edges to keeper Johnny Carter and another edge taken at full stretch in the gully by Gomersall.  Ably supported by the pace of Aidan Easterbrook, who clean bowled two of the middle order at the other end, the Ashburton team were in complete disarray by the end of their spells with the score on 18 for eight.  Bushin mopped up the tail before Belstone knocked off the 32 runs required for victory in seven overs.  Belstone man-of-the-match: Jonathan Parsons.

Belstone’s final Buckley Cup game of the season began with Tedburn St Mary needing to take maximum points to stand any chance of overhauling Yeoford at the top of the table.  Their chances swiftly evaporated as Belstone rattled up their highest 20-over score for five years, losing just three wickets in making 149.  The innings began sedately enough with 23 coming off the first seven overs but with Richard Drake (27 retired), Andrew Paterson (25 retired) and Greg Cornish (22) leading the charge with five sixes over the short pavilion-side boundary, the second half of their innings raced along at ten an over.  Tedburn’s reply was in trouble immediately as both openers were dismissed for ducks in Parsons’ first over.  Paterson (three for nine) proved equally destructive at the other end so that by the end of their four overs apiece seven wickets were down for just 18 runs, the bowlers being well supported by a string of catches the pick of which were Paterson’s diving grasp at point to dismiss Willoughby and Cornish’s clutching of the season’s highest skier to send back Dave Rich.  Tedburn then regained a modicum of respectability as Baker (19 not out) added 54 with the rest of the tail before Gomersall finished the innings with three overs to spare to give Belstone a 72 run victory and ensure that the trophy went to Yeoford.
