Exmouth arrived at Rew Meadow last Sunday with a young side who quickly reduced Belstone to 64 for six after 16 overs with only Andrew Paterson making an impression with three fours in his 21.  The second half of the innings was held together by Chris Gomersall who was last out in the 35th over for a hard hitting 44 (three 4s and a six), which included a significant last wicket partnership of 34 with Aidan Easterbrook (19) – the second highest tenth wicket partnership in the Club’s 14-year history.   Exmouth’s most successful bowler was the left-armer Tarry who took three wickets for 15 runs, while live-wire ‘keeper Tom Booker had a hand in five dismissals with three catches and two stumpings.

Needing to score at just under four an over Exmouth got off to a slow start and never gained any momentum as wickets fell steadily.  At the half way 20-over stage they had limped to 43 for four with Harry Bushin picking up three of these for 12 runs in a fiery spell of eight overs, and he was also responsible for the fourth wicket with a direct hit run out from mid-off.  The game turned completely in Belstone’s favour when debutant Andy Hooper claimed three wickets in four balls of his fifth over to reduce the visitors to 52 for seven.  Skipper and opening bat George Webster struggled on for a valiant 31 but by the time the 40-overs ended Exmouth had only reached 79 for eight, still 78 runs short of Belstone’s total.

Belstone man-of-the-match: Harry Bushin.
