Belstone pay dearly for dropped catch.
Needing a win against top of the table Keyham and Buckfastleigh to keep
survival hopes in South Devon League 2 alive, Belstone
started the game in positive mood.Parsons(9-0-39-2)
returning to the side after long term injury, bowled with control and
guile. Easterbrook (9-2-36-0) opening
down the slope generated some pace and lift and was unlucky to have the
opposition skipper Sykes dropped in the covers when he was only on 4. This
proved to be a costly miss as he went on to make 98 (13 - 4s 1- 6)scoring freely around the ground with powerful drives and
pull shots. The Belstone bowlers struggled to
restrict the scoring though Walsh (4-0-23-2) bowled tidily and Hall (8-0-32-0)
with pace. Andrew Hooper produced another impressive bowling performance(3-1-4-3)
and was the pick of the Belstone team. Keyham and Buckfastleigh posted a
total of 180 for 8.
In reply Belstone made
a bright start with Phillip Woods (10) hitting a couple of powerful boundaries
and Gross (7) looking solid. The pace of Jackson (9-1-22-4) was causing
problems and wickets started to fall at regular intervals, only Gomersall (27)
put up resistance. Belstone slumped from 61 for 5 to
66 all out with 18 overs still remaining losing by
114 runs.
