The hard true pitch and lightning outfield at Paignton yielded another bag load of runs last Sunday when Belstone were the visitors.  Aidan Easterbrook’s second ball yorker of opener Baldry quickly became a distant memory as Paignton batsmen Seb Benton (72) and Reese Wyborn (65) put on 113 for the second wicket in just 52 minutes with 20 fours and a six between them.  Gary Sizmur’s lively pace (three for 40) clean bowled them both as Paignton declined to 204 for 8, with Chris Gomersall and Phil Dennis also claiming wickets.  Belstone then fell apart badly in the field with Andy Kingdon smashing 73 runs as the ninth wicket plundered another 97 in the last ten overs to leave the home team on a formidable 301 for 8 after their 40 overs.

Belstone began their reply solidly enough with Walpole (13) helping a commanding Wayne Pearce to add 81 for the first wicket in 56 minutes.  Pearce was second out having made 82 out of 106 from 74 balls in 71 minutes, with 14 boundaries and a six.  The middle order failed to make much impression against a variety of Paignton bowlers, the pick of whom was Neil Edmonds (three for 30 from six overs), so it was left to Scott Tremain, with an elegant 34 off 25 balls, and three sixes from Harry Bushin (39 not out from 22 balls) to give the final total of 236 for nine some respectability.
