On Saturday Hatherleigh got off to a flying start with openers Pete Holland (26) and Shaun Forester (51) putting on 72 in 12 overs before Phil Dennis (6-1-19-1), Chris Gomersall (4-0-13-0) and debutant off-spinner Neil Rowlands put the brake on the scoring.  Rowlands in particular worked his way through the middle order – even though a handful of catches went down off his bowling – with excellent figures of three for 14 from eight overs.  The innings came to life again at the end when Reynolds hit eight fours and three sixes in a rapid 62 not out which saw 71 runs added in the last seven overs as the home team ended their 40 overs on 211 for eight.

Belstone began in similar fashion with Richard Drake (three sixes in 41) and Phil Woods (24) putting on 61 in ten overs for the first wicket.  The innings then lost its way as Rogers (8-5-13-2) and Tidball (5-0-34-3) caused problems for the middle order, leaving Belstone struggling on 141 for seven.  An assured unbroken partnership of 74 – a new eighth wicket record for the club beating the previous best of 55 set up in 2000 – between Scott Tremain (39 not out) and Gary Sizmur (36 not out) then saw the visitors to a rare victory over Hatherleigh with three overs to spare.
