After electing to bat against Old Suttonians last Sunday Belstone made a slow start with the opening partnership of 30 taking 12 overs before Chris Walpole (7) holed out at mid-on with his first attacking stroke.  Things livened up as skipper Andrew Paterson raced to 38 in just 25 minutes with five 4s and a six before both he and opener Dennis Edwards (a watchful 26 in 71 minutes) were out with the score on 79.  Scott Tremain continued his fine early season form, batting an hour for 33 (to take his season’s aggregate to 123 for once out) before smart work behind the timbers made him one of keeper John Wollington’s three stumping victims.  Neil Rowlands also batted well for 29 but batsmen on both sides found their attacking strokes thwarted as they often played too soon to balls that failed to come onto the bat on a sluggish pitch.  Barry Pearson (7-0-30-4) bowled tidily in the middle order as did returning opening bowler Carl Bradshaw (10-2-25-3) who took the last wicket of Chris Gomersall (one six in 16) to give a tea time score of 183 all out after 43 overs.

Old Suttonians started equally carefully adding 22 in ten overs before Paul Blank took ten runs from Jonathan Parsons’ (7-0-31-0) sixth over.  David Pethybridge (4-0-12-1) made the breakthrough as Taylor (11) pulled a long-hop straight to Rowlands at midwicket, soon followed by Rowlands himself clean bowling Blank for 28.  Bradshaw (22) and Brown (17) briefly threatened to keep Old Suttonians up with the asking rate of six an over but when they were both out with half of the final 20 overs remaining the visitors were content to put up the shutters.  Rowlands (7-2-19-2), Paterson (7-2-11-3) and Gomersall (5-1-9-2) kept chipping away at the lower order but watchful defence by Vikram Lackey (10 not out) and last man Andrew Hooper saw the final 24 balls safely negotiated to earn Old Suttonians the draw on 115 for eight.

Those with a Belstone fixture list should note that the advertised game this Sunday 6 May against Sticklepath has been re-arranged to Sunday 2 September.
